White-Campbell (Riverton) Family Tree
prepared by Bruce Jackson
Introduction
This website is dedicated to the descendents of Daniel White and Catharine Campbell, emigrants to America from Scotland.

Daniel White (or Whyte), a Baptist preacher[1], married Catharine Campbell of Argyll, Scotland, in August 1806. They sailed from Greenock on the ship Liberty on August 28, 1807 and arrive in Charleston, SC on October 7th[2]. Their first daughter, Mary, was born three weeks later.

Rev. White preached his first sermon in America at Lumber Bridge, North Carolina on the first Sunday in November 1807. He died in 1824 on a mission trip to Pender County and was buried there for 100 years. His remains were moved to Spring Hill Cemetery, Wagram, North Carolina by his great-grandson Livingston Johnson[3].

Catharine Campbell, or Grandma White, was born on Christmas Day, 1786. She lived on for many years after Daniel's death as the matriarch of a growing family; she saw General W. T. Sherman's army march through Scotland County on its way back North from Charleston (following the capture and burning of Atlanta). She died in 1867 and is buried at the Riverton family cemetery near Wagram.

Notes:
  1. From a baptismal record found by a genealogist hired by Isabel Madry Zimmerman: "Baptism: Whyte, Donald 16 May 1776 - Lawful son of Donald Whyte and Janet McKillen, spouse [in] ROW in Gorton. Born May 15, 1776." According to the genealogist, Row is now Rhu, and Donald is a synonym for Daniel. We cannot be certain this is our ancestor, however.
